Learning support - how we support children's learning

The school has access to the county support services. The educational psychologist makes visits for formal assessment, annual reviews, in-service education and training, and informal discussions with pupils or staff. We have access to advisors for physical handicaps and visual impairment, speech, occupational and physiotherapists as well as to Health and Social Services, Chippenham Young People's Support Service and Voluntary Agencies.

  Support is offered through:

•  help in the classroom - support from our Teaching Assistants

•  withdrawal into small discrete (SEN) groups for English lessons

•  withdrawal to work with a Special Needs Teacher or TA on e.g. reading spelling, handwriting

•  working either 1:1 or in a very small group with our teacher for 'Specific Learning Difficulties' - using a multi-sensory approach to teach reading and spelling

•  offering advice and/or assistance on appropriate teaching methods/suitable resources/differentiation, etc.

•  providing information on individual pupils and preparing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs)

•  behaviour management and in class support for pupils who show inappropriate behaviour

•  staff training
