Sheldon's Academy Status
Sheldon School became an Academy on 1 April 2011.

See the Academy letter from Michael Gove.

The transition followed a whole-school consultation process which began in the summer of 2010.  The consultation included a meeting for parents and a ballot of all staff.  The parents meeting and the staff ballot showed overwhelming support for the proposal.

On December 8 2010 Sheldon's Governing Body voted to convert Sheldon from a foundation school to an academy.

The change affects the way in which the school is financed and gives us independence from the local authority.  However, the school's admissions arrangements are unchanged and we remain a comprehensive, 11-18 school for boys and girls.

Sheldon's approach to Academy status has been distinctive.  The Sheldon Charters protect the ethos and values of the school.  They are binding on the governing body and protected by the new Sheldon Trust Board.

The Consultation
Sheldon's decision to become an academy followed a thorough consultation of parents and staff.
