The semi finals of the National Schools Biathlon Championship took place on Sunday 22nd January at University of Bath.
This is a relatively new event in which competitors swim 100 metres and then after recovering run 1000 metres - the combined points score creates a total. This is the first time we have entered the event. Alex Jones from Year 12 was team captain. He had organised school trials with team manager Mr. Douglas, resulting in 14 students gaining qualifying times for the national semi-finals.
In a fantastic event which was attended by over 500 competitors, there were some outstanding performances by Sheldon competitors.
The highlights was when George Claverley from Year 9 won his age group competition after swimming a personal best to finish second (59 seconds). He followed this up with a determined run for fourth place. His combined score won him the event.
Alex Jones finished 4th in the senior boys and Emma Mortimer 5th in the senior girls.
The senior boys team came second, with Alex Jones, Ollie Sherratt and Joe Bailey pushing Millfield School into third place.
The pupils who finished in the top six now compete in the National finals at Crystal Palace. Congratulations to all competitors from team manager Mr. Douglas: it was a brilliant day.
