The Performing and Expressive Arts faculty are celebrating achieving Artsmark Gold status from The Arts Council England. This prestigious national award recognises Sheldon’s commitment to, and excellence in, arts education.
Sheldon is one of 1,750 schools in the country to have received Artsmark this year.
Sheldon is proud to have been awarded the highest award, improving on the silver award achieved in 2008.
With a large amount of criteria to fulfil, the award recognises the quality of the provision of creative subjects including art, drama, dance, music, photography, creative writing and media.
It also focuses heavily on the amount of external practitioners that work with the faculty.
Miss Tryner, who joint led the application with Miss North said: "Our students have particularly benefited from working with Elm Dance as an established partnership. It has been so inspiring to work with a range of visiting artists through the many events that we are able to offer at Sheldon."
The external assessor for the Arts council commented on the strength of our application and said “The school has a strong reputation for the arts and the quality of the offer is in no small part due to the tightly run and very professional PEA faculty. There is a strong ethos of encouragement and support to those students who excel in the arts as well as an ethos of offering arts opportunities for all.” |
