The scale of Sheldon's outstanding A level achievement in 2006 has been underlined by the publication of the school performance tables. They show that sixth formers at Sheldon achieved more A level points than their peers in the region's independent, fee-paying schools.

The A level results achieved by Sheldon students in 2006 were the best ever achieved in a Wiltshire comprehensive school. They were also the best in any West of England comprehensive school this year. Sheldon's students averaged 356 points per student, the next best in the West of England was 335 points at Churchill School in North Somerset and the next best in Wiltshire was 330 points at Wootton Bassett School.
