SHELDON MUSICIANS SHINE IN ROTARY COMPETITION

On Tuesday 20 March 2007, five young musicians from Sheldon took part in the Rotary Young Musician of the Year Competition, competing against Hardenhuish and Abbeyfield schools.

In the lower school section, Ruth Knight and Jacob Byrne of Year 9, and Mary Barnes of Year 8 performed. In the upper school section Sam Ranger and Rob Matthews, both of year 10, performed. The evening saw performances on a range of instruments, and every pupil who performed did so extremely well. The adjudication was done by Nicholas Keyworth, who acknowledged the quality of all the performances, and the courage it took for each musician to perform so well in front of a large audience.

There were two winners in each section and Sheldon had a clean sweep in the junior honours. Second place went to Mary Barnes, who sang Colours of the Wind, and first place went to Ruth Knight who played a Handel sonata on flute.
