Sheldon Musicians Win Rotary Prizes
On Tuesday 28 March, five students from Sheldon took part in the Rotary Young Musician 2006 Youth Makes Music Competition.
Our students were competing against students from Hardenhuish and Abbeyfield Schools in 2 categories: Intermediate and Senior. James Parsons on electric guitar, Xiaoxuan Liu on voice and piano, and Becky Holdsworth on voice all impressed the audience with their confidence and musicality. In the senior category, Kathryn Boulter and James Lewis, both on clarinet, gave mature and polished performances.
The competition was adjudicated by Nicholas Keyworth, who was impressed by the quality of all the performances and by the fact that the students weren’t motivated by the ‘competition factor’
but rather by the fact that they were all there to share their music and do their best. He gave a very thorough adjudication to each student, which they all benefited from.
The final adjudication placed Xiaoxuan Liu as winner of the intermediate category, and James Lewis as runner-up in the senior category. All students went away with a certificate, and Xiaoxuan received a trophy for winning her section. Sheldon is very proud of all our students who performed!
