  • English Language and Literature are taught simultaneously in Years 10 and 11.
  • GCSE Science starts in Year 9. Most pupils do Core Science in Year 10 and Additional Science in Year 11. Some will do triple science (Further Additional Science).
  • Pupils take French and German in Years 7 and 8; for Year 9 most will choose one of those languages which they will then follow to GCSE in Year 11, however, there is now the opportunity to continue both languages in Year 9. In Years 10 and 11 most pupils take either French or German; they can take a second modern language as an option choice.
  • Design Technology in Years 7, 8 and 9 deals with food, textiles, resistant materials and control technology.
  • Geography and History are now taught discretely in each of Years 7,8 and 9 with the time being equally divided between the two.
  • Performing Arts includes elements of Dance, Drama, Visual Art and Music throughout Years 7, 8 and 9. In Year 9 for 2015.16 pupils are able to opt for two or three of the PEA subjects. At KS4 these subjects along with Art: Textiles are available as options.
  • Physical Education in Years 10 and 11 offers an options programme which includes leisure pursuits, traditional field and individual sports, rock climbing and canoeing. We also offer GCSE PE and BTec Sport as options at KS4.
  • PSRE comprises elements of religious education, multicultural education, health and sex education, consumer education, work-related learning including careers education and relationships and citizenship.
  • There are a number of pathways through KS4 ranging from a very academic, English Baccalaureate approach to a more vocational one including more appropriate options and off-site course provision – see the KS4 options booklet for further info.
  • At KS4 pupils have one third of their week devoted to optional courses. They select four courses from a list covering a wide range of subjects. Their range of choice is constrained to ensure they cover a broad and balanced curriculum.
