Most pupils entering Key Stage 4 will follow a GCSE course in French or German. Pupils can also opt to study a second language at this stage including Spanish. Language learning is designed to be challenging and fun for all. To be successful pupils are expected to get the most out of every lesson by participating fully and contributing as much as they can.
During the course pupils will cover the following themes and topic areas:
- Out and about, customer services and transactions
- Personal information
- Future plans, education and employment
- Media and culture, sport and leisure, travel and tourism
German, French and Spanish GCSE are currently assessed on the basis of modular examinations, of which 30% is speaking and 30% written controlled coursework, completed over the two year course. The listening and reading modules are each worth 20% and are completed at the end of Year 11.
