Information for parents who have applied (or are thinking of applying) for a place at Sheldon
DEADLINES
The deadline for applications for places in year 7 in September 2011 is Sunday October 31st 2010. Any applications received by Wiltshire after that date will be treated as late applications. You can access the Wiltshire on-line admissions system here.
LIKELIHOOD OF GAINING A PLACE
Sheldon was heavily oversubscribed for entry in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2110, all siblings gained places. All children living or going to school in the rural catchment area got places. 90% of children applying from the town catchment area got places, but about 20 were unsuccessful. Out-of-catchment applicants were also unsuccessful.
However, the chances of getting a place have been improving and Chippenham children's likelihood of gaining a place is now very good. This reflects a declining year 6 population. With an even smaller year 6 from September, places in 2011 may once again be available to pupils living outside both catchment areas.
Whether Sheldon is just full or very full, parents who put Sheldon as their first choice school do not reduce ther chance of getting their second or third choice school. So if Sheldon is your preferred choice, it is worth making the school your first preference.
OPEN DAYS

Sheldon's Open Days for parents and their year 5 children will be on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th June 2010. These events provide an opportunity to visit Sheldon and see the school on a normal working day. They are aimed at parents of children who will be applying for admission in September 2011. If you miss those days and would like to see the school, you can come to the prospective parents evening on 23rd September 2010 or contact Mary-Clare Leigh, the head's PA, who may be able to arrange a meeting with Mr MacMahon and a tour around the school.
PROSPECTIVE PARENTS EVENING
The Open Evening for parents of pupils beginning secondary school in 2011 will be on 23rd September 2010. There will be introductory sessions in the school hall at 7pm and 7.30pm.
