SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
A STATEMENT OF POLICY

i Special educational provision is made for all pupils in the school with special educational needs.
ii All teachers in the school are aware of the importance of identifying pupils with SEN as early as possible, and making the appropriate provision for them.
iii All pupils with special educational needs are, wherever practicable, involved in all the activities of the school with pupils who do not have special educational needs.
iv All pupils, including those with special educational needs, follow the National Curriculum. This entails careful delivery of the curriculum in order to ensure those pupils pursue appropriate differentiated approaches to the attainment targets.
v Any temporary exception to iv above should be made only after very careful consideration.
vi The progress of all pupils with special educational needs is fully monitored, and parents are kept fully informed and involved.
vii The school works with, and takes best advantage of the whole range of support services available to pupils with special educational needs.
Vii The Headteacher, through the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), is appointed as the person 'responsible' for ensuring that the above duties are carried out and that all pupils' 'special needs' are known by all who teach them.
ix Wherever premises development occurs, consideration is given to improving facilities for, and access to, pupils with physical disabilities.
