STRIKING PERFORMANCES FROM GCSE STUDENTS AT SHELDON
Year 11 students have been celebrating at Sheldon following some great individual performances in this summer’s GCSE examinations. 85% achieved a Grade 4 or better in English and 80% in Maths, contributing to an excellent overall score of 76% of students securing pass grades or better in both. An impressive 13% of entries were in the top grade bracket, with 81% of all students gaining at least five Grade 4s amongst their results.
Leading the way with 9 Grade 9s, 1 Grade 8 and 3 A* was Kirsty Wang – a phenomenal achievement. Achieving a clean sweep of Grade 9s in this summer series was Will Templeton with ten, one of 15 students to achieve ten or more Grade 7s (old Grade A) or higher. Ed Opie (11) and Maddie Moor (10) were the other two students who secured double figures of Grade 9/8s. Jacob Lawrence, Will Anderson (both 9), Alex O’Neill, Sophie Stephens, Gabrielle Armando, Harvey Lawson, Lara Titkova, Tom Huston, Oliver Bouchard, and Naomi White (all 8) achieved a tremendous number of the highest (old A*) grades too.
The numbers securing Grade 4 and above have surpassed the figures from the previous two years, with over half gaining at least one Grade 7 in their GCSEs – a great return for all of the students’ hard work. Right across the year group, students should be delighted with what they have achieved and the majority of them are staying on into our Sixth Form.
EXCELLENT A LEVEL RESULTS AT SHELDON
Half of Sheldon’s 168-strong A Level cohort secured grades A*-B in this year’s examinations, with almost one quarter gaining the highest grades A* and A. In value-added terms, this is one of the school’s strongest showings for many years, with results likely to see it placed in the top quartile nationally.
Of the A Level students, 92% secured at least three passes, 98% two and 100% one – an impressive achievement. Louis Austin and Annabelle Moore gained 4 A*/A grades with Samir Jiwa achieving straight A*s in his three A Levels. In all, 36 students gained at least two A*/A grades and this excludes those studying Level 3 vocational qualifications, of which an excellent 18 out of 26 achieved distinction or merit.

Results came in above predictions and above challenging individual targets. In addition to two Oxbridge students, we have many heading to prestigious universities and higher level apprenticeships, but as a fully inclusive sixth form, we are equally pleased by the showing of students right across the ability spectrum. Those making the most progress from GCSE and ending with tremendous A Levels include: Jasmine Hopkins, Oliver Cosgrove, Katy Lakeland, Holly Williams, William Harris, Alexandra Purbrick, Kit Stainthorpe, Lewis Morrissey and Lawrence Baddeley-Chappell, all of which has contributed to the excellent overall value-added figure.
