A level exam results day at Sheldon 2014 once again saw many smiling faces as students secured the grades they needed to move on to university.  Half secured B grades or better and an impressive 99% of all 181 students achieved grades A*-E.

Amongst the top performers were Matthew Almond with 4A*, 2A and Amelia Hall with 5A grades.  Both are off to Cambridge University to study Maths and Law respectively, taking the total of Sheldon students entering Oxford or Cambridge to an impressive seven in the past two years.

In addition, the following students achieved 4 A grades or better: Isabelle Forest who is studying law at Nottingham; Isabella Smith Medicine at Birmingham; Henry Fotheringham-Brown Politics at Exeter; and Katie Smith Chemical Engineering at Birmingham.

Students in Year 12 were also celebrating some excellent results with Joe Merriman (5 A grades) and Elizabeth Daly, Jessica Law, Jennifer Davidson, Emma MacCleaster and Zoe Trott (all 4 A grades) standing out.  A total of 18 students achieved 3 or more A grades at this halfway point.

We are thrilled that so many of our students have achieved the grades required to move on to the next very important stages in their lives and are delighted that the grades secured were above predictions, given the national picture.

Students at Sheldon are celebrating some tremendous GCSE results with 85% achieving at least 5 A*-C grades and 69% achieving at least 5 A*-C when including English and maths. An impressive quarter of all students reached at least 5 A*/A grades including English and maths, with 26 students achieving 10 or more A*/A grades.  Sheldon’s EBacc figure was again very strong at 38%, almost twice the national average.  Amongst the top performers were the following:

  • James Barrett – 11A*, 1A
  • Ishmael Akalanne – 10A*, 2A
  • Ellen Heimpel – 10A*, 1A
  • Aimee Wright - 9A*, 3A
  • Charles Shaw – 8A*, 4A
  • Gemma Shepherd – 8A*, 4A
  • Harriet Ward – 8A*, 4A
  • Sophie Crawford – 8A*, 3A
  • Richard Noble - 8A*, 3A

An enormous amount of hard work has gone in to arrive at these results and it’s a fitting tribute for the students’ efforts and the commitment of their teachers. We clearly have some stunning results from our top-end students, but we are very pleased with the results of all of the Year 11s. 82% of all students made at least 3 levels of progress in both English and mathematics (compared to national averages of 70%) and 99% achieved 5 A*-G with English and maths. It was also wonderful to see that 58% of the 279 students achieved at least one A grade.
