We run a strong primary liaison programme and it is unlikely that any pupil will start their design and technology course at Sheldon without having attended our two week induction project. Particularly in primary schools with few DT resources, our induction project really does bring pupils up to a standard and most start at Sheldon confidently looking forward to their DT lessons.

Pupils engage in a wide range of 'design and make' projects during KS3 which develop skills, creativity and an independent approach to work. Projects focus on food, textiles, graphic products and resistant materials. Each links to a GCSE course and supports the GCSE option process for Year 9 pupils.

A feature of our KS3 curriculum is the Yr7 ‘Dragon’s Den’ competition which is judged by the headteacher and one of our industrial partners. Another feature is our Yr9 Industry Day which informs pupils about the DT subjects at GCSE and the links they have to career pathways. A Saville Row tailor, Westinghouse Signals, Wavin Plastics, Haydon Bakeries and DKA Architects contribute.
