At Key Stage 3 we build on language skills that pupils may have learnt at Primary School and aim to prepare them effectively for study at GCSE. Pupils study both French and German in Years 7 and 8.

In Year 9 pupils study one language which they continue with at KS4. By the end of KS3 the majority of pupils will be confident in the use of past, present and future tenses. They will also be able to use conjunctions and express opinions. Pupils are assessed regularly in the four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking.

In Year 7 we cover such topics as meeting people, school and family life, free time, hobbies, sports and in the town. By the end of year 9 pupils will be able to write at GCSE level on such topics as media and entertainment.

At KS3 pupils can expect to have regular vocabulary tests and written homework tasks. Pupils are assessed formally in the four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking on a regular basis.
