Deaf Students Get Expert Tennis Coaching

15 Dec 23

This term our deaf and hard of hearing students began taking tennis lessons at the Chippenham Tennis Club. They have had a blast learning the basics of tennis and developing their skills both on the outside courts and in the dome. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to get to spend time with each other outside of our Hearing Resource Base and is a fun way for them to develop a positive deaf identity.

We look forward to continuing the lessons in the new year and are very grateful to our coach, Pete, and his team of volunteers from the Chippenham Tennis Club for their enthusiastic support of our students. The programme is funded by Wiltshire Tennis and the Lawn Tennis Association through the Open Court Programme. We'd also like to thank Mrs Freeman for helping to arrange these fantastic opportunities for our students!

I was head girl in 2015 and loved being able to speak to parents about my time at Sheldon when they were considering where their children should go. Because of how it has shaped me as a person I feel I am who I am today because of my time there.
