Summer Term Information
As we head into the Summer Term and begin to see better weather, we would like to offer the following advice to parents and carers.
Warm Weather Advice
Please ensure that students bring a water bottle to school. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day regulates body temperatures, which can help stop headaches and fatigue. There are two water fountains that students can drink from and cups can be purchased for 20p in our food areas if they do not have a bottle. Students sitting exams must use clear bottles without labels or writing.
Please ensure students wear sunscreen to avoid sunburns. They may also bring a hat to wear outside during break or lunch.
If you suffer from hay fever, make sure you take antihistamine and bring a spare in your bag in case you forget.
Jumpers are not required during the Summer Term. If there is a heatwave, we will send messages to parents about relaxation of our uniform rules.
Bits and Stings
As it is the season of bits and stings, we would like to encourage students to follow some simple steps to help minimise reactions:
- Ensure hands are washed regularly and school bags are clean and clear of rubbish, especially food waste.
- Avoid heavily scented perfumes and body sprays that could attract insects.
- Check for ticks and remove immediately if you find one using fine tipped tweezers. The medical room at staff can assist with this.
- If you find yourself near a nest (ants, bees, wasps, etc), calmly move to another area. Please report any wasp nests or bee swarms to Reception.
- Keep antihistamine with you at all times if you know you react to bites and stings.
Other First Aid Information
If a student is too ill to be in school, please call before 8:30am to report the absence every day they are off. Students who have sickness or diarrhoea should be off for a minimum of 48 hours from the last bout of sickness. If a student has a fever, they can return to school once the fever has broken.
Please assist where needed with checking students for headlice and deal with them if found. Visit the pharmacy for guidance on headlice and egg removal.
Please ensure that students have everything they need to cope with colds, coughs and hay fever (medication, throat sweets, wipes, tissues, etc). Do not carry more than can be taken in a school day.
