A welcome from the Head of Faculty, Mrs Law
The English team at Sheldon believes that English has the power to transform lives. Our dedicated team of subject specialists combines high expectations and expert knowledge with kindness and care. We believe every student deserves excellent teaching and an ambitious, intellectually stimulating curriculum. Through the study of a broad range of literature, we strive to develop students' confidence to understand themselves, empathise with others and engage critically with the world around them. Our curriculum offers students both mirrors and windows: opportunities to see their own experiences reflected while encountering voices, perspectives and worlds beyond their own. We want every student to become a confident reader, writer, speaker and thinker, achieving the best academic outcomes of which they are capable.
English should not stop at the classroom door. Through creative writing competitions, drama performances, clubs and wider literary experiences, we give students opportunities to discover new interests and develop their confidence beyond the classroom. Above all, we want every student to leave Sheldon as a confident and capable communicator, equipped with the knowledge, skills and ambition to shape their future.
At KS5, the English Faculty offer three exciting A Levels in English Language, English Literature and Media Studies.
