Homework

Research suggests that homework can improve the progress of a student by more than 5 months when compared to students who do not engage with homework. As a school, we are committed to improving the quality and consistency of homework.

We recognise that using retrieval practice ensures that knowledge gained during class can be embedded into students' long-term memories. If students can recall key facts, skills and concepts, they will be able to apply that knowledge to their learning.

For the most part, we will use low-stakes quizzes and automated technology to allow students to get immediate feedback on their homework. That way students will know right away if there is an area they need to revisit.

For more information, see the letter sent home to parents about our homework strategy below.

Homework Schedule

We use a homework time table for KS3 and KS4 to give students, parents and staff clarity on when work should be set. All homework will be due 7 days after it is set. So if English homework is set on a Monday, it must be completed by the following Monday. If homework has to be physically handed in, students will be given more than 7 days to complete it and submit it to their teacher.

This will give sufficient time to manage homework alongside other extracurricular commitments.

Monitoring Homework

To allow parents to monitor homework progress, homework is set using the epraise platform. Parents will be able to see their child's homework diary and their completion progress. Our senior and middle leaders will also be able to monitor the quality standards of homework.

If you have any questions about homework in general, get in touch with your child's tutor. If you have a question about a specific piece of work, please contact their class teacher.
