Three Sheldon School Teams completed the Ten Tors Challenge 2026 earlier this month. Two teams combining Year 9 and Year 10 students completed the 35-mile route both crossing the line in exceptional spirits and wonderful fancy dress.

For the first time in 7 years, we entered a team in the 55-mile route. You may have seen their amusing crossing of the finish line in caterpillar fancy dress on our Facebook page. Two students in this team completed their fifth consecutive event—something that very few Ten Tors competitors can claim. Four members of the team were also completing their third and final distance, having previously done the 35- and 45-mile challenges!

A huge congratulation to all the teams--they truly embody the Sheldon ethos and have shown such hard work and dedication as they prepared for the event through practice walks, camps and weekly training sessions at school. We’d also like to thank all the students that attended Ten Tors training but were not selected for the final event. Places in Ten Tors are limited, but their commitment throughout the year helped get each of our teams across the line. We hope to see you all again when Ten Tors training begins again next school year.

The Ten Tors programme at Sheldon School would not be successful with out the tireless efforts of our Ten Tors Manager, Mr Page and all the staff that support the programme including Mrs Goldsmith, Mrs Teague, Miss Libby and Mrs Freeman. We have also been lucky enough to have former students and staff join us on our training sessions to support our teams and give them valuable insight into what it takes to be successful during the event. Thank you to Nick Cooke, Emily Whitham, Sam Whitham, George Rich, Marcus James, Fleury Howson, Kieran Pidgeon for giving up your time and sleep for our students.

We’d like to give a special thank you to Miss Libby for 10 years of volunteering to support Ten Tors. She is a tireless, unsung hero of our Ten Tors training providing amazing guidance, mentoring and training, not to mention the brain teasers, puzzles and jokes. Miss Libby and all of the staff that support Ten Tors show a commitment to extracurricular enrichment that truly make life at Sheldon more special.

Partial funding for Ten Tors equipment was generously provided by the Friends of Sheldon School.
I was head girl in 2015 and loved being able to speak to parents about my time at Sheldon when they were considering where their children should go. Because of how it has shaped me as a person I feel I am who I am today because of my time there.
