Ten Tors Celebration in Snowdonia

Last week our Ten Tors team took 23 students from Year 10-13 to Snowdonia for four days of camping and hiking to celebrate the end of an amazing year of training for the Ten Tors Challenge. These students are now taking the next steps in applying the skills they acquired through our training to a more exciting and adventurous mountain experience. 

During the four days adventure, they explored Snowdon itself (climbing as much of it as possible!), venturing out into the more barren Carneddau and scrambling over Tryfan and the Tolkiensque landscape of the Glyders. Their final walk was completed along the hidden gem that is Nanttle Ridge, once more testing the students's scrambling skills as well as their head of heights.It was a wonderful week, thoroughly enjoyed by both students and staff. In fact, our students were buzzing so much when they returned, they had to be coaxed back to returning home to their parents!

Our Ten Tors programme would exist without the passion and dedication of Mr Page. His tireless commitment to giving students the opportunity to not just learn outdoor skills, but to learn teamwork, perseverance and confidence has led to extraordinary achievements for many young people. A testament to his positive influence on the lives of Ten Tors participants is the continued participation of former Sheldon pupils who give up their time and use their personal holiday time to support these expeditions. We'd like to thank Emily Whitham, Marcus James, Fleury Howson, Sam Whitham and Kieran Pidgeon for accompanying the group last week.

There are many people involved in school that help support Mr Page and the Ten Tors programme. We would like to thank Mrs Goldsmith without whose tireless administration, paperwork, food shopping support and boundless energy for all things outdoors, this trip would not have been possible. We'd also like to thank Mr Lynch and Mr Symes for supporting the programme, as well as the Fiance Team. Thank you also to the Friends of Sheldon School for providing funding for equipment needed for training and for sponsoring our recent Ten Tors Awards evening.

If your child is interested in learning more about Ten Tors, Mr Page will be holding assemblies and Parent Information Evenings in the new school year to explain more about the training scheduled and selection process. It is a great opportunity to challenge yourself and develop skills for life.
