Testimony 360

9 Jul 26

A group of our Year 9 historians were invited to participate in the Testimony 36 programme organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust.

Students were able to ask their own questions of Holocaust survivors via pre-recorded interactive testimonies, using virtual reality to explore the recordings of historical sites associated with the Holocaust. The group first attended an assembly during in the morning to introduce the programme and explain the importance of reflecting on the Holocaust, especially as the event moves from living memory into history. They were then divided into small groups to follow the journey of a survivor as he told the story of his life and family. They were able to view the locations he described: his home village, the train stations he was taken to while being transported to the camps; the beach where he was liberated; and finally his lounge in London surrounded by photos of his family. Throughout the VR experience, students where able to type questions that would be answered within the programme.

Thank you to the Holocaust Educational Trust for providing this free interactive resource to our students.

I didn’t realise until I was older that the things i learned weren’t all academic - I was shown how to be a better person and express myself due to some really amazing teachers.
