A welcome from the Head of Faculty, Miss Wainwright

Our philosophy in PE is to enthuse and inspire all students to take part in regular physical activity thus promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

At key stage 3 pupils take part in 12 different sports a year including winter sports such as netball, rugby, hockey, football, badminton, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, handball and summer sports including softball, cricket, tennis, rounders and athletics. Alongside developing their skill set across different activities students also develop their teamwork, communication and leadership skills.

At key stage 4 and 5 our students enter into a varied and exciting options programme. This includes all of the sports taught at key stage 3 but then also offers the opportunity to take part in trampolining, cycling, ultimate frisbee, kayaking, fitness, climbing and map and compass.

We are incredibly proud of our extracurricular programme. We offer daily after school and lunch time clubs in a range of sporting activities. Our aim is to maintain excellent participation rates at clubs alongside having competitive teams represented in school fixtures and tournaments. We regularly make county and regional finals in many sports.

We offer a range of examination courses in PE at both key stage 4 and 5 allowing our students to access sports courses at University and enter into careers in sport.

Having worked in many schools I can say that the environment at Sheldon School is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The standard of education and relationships I built with teachers were exceptional.
