Y9 Investigates Historical Objects

1 Nov 25

During Term 1, our Year 9 History classes examined the Transatlantic Traffic in Enslaved Africans. To help bring this period to life, we borrowed a box of real and replica artifacts from Bristol M Shed. Students investigated the objects relating to West African culture, trade links between Europe and African, life on plantations and the abolition movement to aid in their discussions about this part of our history. The students were very curious about the objects they encountered, sparking interesting conversations about how the objects reveal attitudes in the past and in the modern world.

Thank you to the Friends of Sheldon School for supporting this project to bring museum artifacts into the classroom.

Sheldon gave me confidence in my abilities and supported my ambitions. Going to a state school has many benefits over private in terms of real-world experience and being friends with a varied group of students. This has helped me in my life since school.
