Crime Scene Day

12 Nov 25

Yesterday, our Year 13 Criminology students had an opportunity to investigate a murder scenario during our annual Crime Scene Day delivered by Simon Smith of Zakon Training. Throughout the day, students learned about a wide variety of jobs available in policing, law and science. The day began with students listening to the initial 999 call and interviews with witnesses. They had the opportunity to be crime scene investigators when one of our classrooms became the scene of a grizzly murder. Once the police work was done, the students transformed the hall into a courtroom. Everyone took on a role, whether it be the accused murderer, key witnesses, detectives, judges, forensic experts, or prosecution and defence barristers.

We were very impressed with our student's enthusiasm and willingness to engage in the role play throughout the day, especially those that got into the spirit by wearing the traditional court dress of wigs and robes. They asked wonderful questions and showed strong aptitude toward defense and prosecutorial arguments, investigation techniques and understanding of police procedure and the law. It was great to see them bring the knowledge they acquired in the classroom into the scenarios throughout the day. Crime Scene Day is one of the highlights of our Criminology course as it allows us a chance to put learning into practice. We think many of our students have a bright future ahead of them as solicitors, barristers, police detectives and forensic scientists.
