Last week we hosteda group of students from Schiller-Gymnasium Hameln as part of our cultural exchange programme that has existed over 40 years!

Our Year 9 students welcomed the German visitors with fun and games in the hall, lunch in the Refectory and classic British pub quiz before attending  a lesson so that the German students could get a taster of the English education system. After school, Sheldon students took their new friends into Chippenham for a scavenger hunt around town. They returned in the evening for a buffet in the Diner before saying goodbye to the German students as they boarded the coach to head back home.

We'd like to thank all of the students for being wonderful hosts. The day wouldn't be possible without our brilliant Language teachers, especially Mrs Williams who organised the visit. We are planning on making a trip to Hameln in the summer to allow our students a chance to reconnect with their new German friends and to use their language skills.

Funding for the visit was generously provided by UK-German Connection, a bilateral government initiative dedicated to improving contacts and understanding between young people in the UK and Germany.

I was head girl in 2015 and loved being able to speak to parents about my time at Sheldon when they were considering where their children should go. Because of how it has shaped me as a person I feel I am who I am today because of my time there.
