Outstanding Sixth Form Results
We are very pleased to share news about Sheldon Sixth Form Performance following the completion of all remarks and appeals from the Summer 2025 A Level examinations. Now that the results have been fully validated, they confirm an outstanding achievement for our school.
Sheldon is one the highest performing schools in both Wiltshire and BANES for Sixth Form progress, outperforming almost all other state and private schools in the region, including those in Bath. This is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the dedication of our students and the expertise of our staff.
Our validated progress score for 2025 stands at +0.27. In practical terms, this means that, on average, every student achieved more than a quarter of a grade higher in each subject than their prior attainment predicted. This level of added value places Sheldon firmly at the top of local performance tables and reflects the sustained hard work invested across recent years.
Progress is widely recognised as the most accurate and meaningful measure of school performance, particularly at KS4 & KS5. Unlike raw attainment, which varies depending on the starting points of a cohort, progress reflects how much value and growth a school adds to each student over the two years of study, regardless of ability. It is also one of the only performance measures that Ofsted focuses on at KS5, underscoring its importance in evaluating the quality of education provided.
This success should give our current Year 11 students great confidence as they consider their next steps and the opportunities available to them in our Sixth Form.
Year 11 Envelope Opening
On Thursday 5th March, Year 11 students will receive all of their mock examination grades and will take part in a practice results collection session, mirroring the process they will follow in the summer. This will take place during Lesson 6 in the School Hall. Each student will receive an envelope containing their grades along with a mock Sixth Form offer letter, indicating whether, based on their mock performance, they have met the entry requirements for Sheldon Sixth Form. This is purely a practice exercise, designed to help students understand where they currently stand and what they may still need to work on. All students who have applied to our Sixth Form already hold a provisional conditional offer, meaning that as long as they achieve the required grades in the summer, their place is guaranteed. We are still taking applications for Sixth Form, if students have reconsidered their choices. Sheldon Scholars
We have also strengthened our academic support and Sheldon Scholars programme by inviting an external specialist to supplement the work we already do with students who are already considering applying for very competitive courses at Russell Group and other high tariff universities, including medicine, law and veterinary science. Caryn Hammond and the Sixth Form Team will be working closely with both Sixth Form students and Year 11s over the coming months, helping them to prepare high quality personal statements, develop strong applications and build confidence for interviews. This additional provision is designed to ensure that every student with high aspirations receives expert guidance and the best possible chance of success. Our dedicated Sixth Form Team will continue to support all students in the usual way.
We are incredibly proud of what our young people achieved last year, and we look forward to supporting the next cohort to reach even greater heights in the summer of 2026.
