All of our Year 12 Sheldon Sixth Form students taking humanities courses attended workshops hosted by the Royal Literary Fund to help develop their writing and prepare for the challenges of academic or formal writing at university, college or work. We were pleased to welcome four Bridge Fellows from the RLF to work with students throughout the morning. All of the visiting fellows (Andrew Miller, Alice Albinia, Jonathan Edwards and Jon Stock) are successful authors with many years of experience in writing fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

During the session, students were introduced to new terms used in academic writing, as well as techniques they can use to develop their practical writing skills. They focused specifically on essay writing, covering the purpose of different writing styles, essay flow, evidence and critical thinking. The goal of the workshops is to boost students' confidence in their ability to write well, as well as offer an opportunity to get advice on writing and essay planning.

Thank you to the Royal Literary Fund for providing this insightful workshop for our students.
