Sheldon Summer Concert
On Tuesday night, our talented students displayed all the effort that they put into the Summer Concert – our final concert of the school year.
Concert recap by Year 12 student and member of the Sheldon Orchestra, Raven L
With the breeze drifting in to cool down the hall, our students showcased their love for music with a range of genres from classical pieces to hardcore rock, as well as acoustic punk rock and jazz from our Year 13 leavers. Performances included the Brass Group, Ukulele Orchestra, Sheldon Singers, String Group, Flute Group, and Sheldon Orchestra. Additionally, we had vocal solos and duets, which were overflowing with sass in some cases and groove in others.
As always, our dynamic performances by student bands Intravenous and Insignia didn’t fail to blow our audience away with the sheer amount of passion and power they produced. This was an interesting juxtaposition to the much more serene performances heard earlier on in the evening.
Our music groups seem to be forever growing every term, especially as groups like Sheldon Singers and Ukulele Orchestra join forces, resulting in over 30 students all working together to create the best performance possible of a cheesy classic by Ed Sheeran and a 2021 pop hit from Olivia Rodrigo.
We'd like to thank all of our musicians for working so hard to perfect their craft, for their courage to perform and their commitment to practicing during lunches and after school. We’d also like to thank the families of our musicians for supporting them along the way.
Sheldon is also very lucky to have a team of extraordinarily talented and encouraging music teachers at our school, headed by Mr Goldsworthy and joined by Mrs Hall, as well as our external music teachers including Mr Sanders, Mr Fosker and Mr Warner who accompanied students during the concert.
Our Summer Concert couldn’t have happened without the support of our tech team, Owen, Brajan and Henry, who run the lights and sound for our shows. They have just finished their A Levels, and we want to thank them for helping out with so many Sheldon productions throughout the year.
Our refreshments during the interval were to raise funds for the Bristol Children’s Hospital Grand Appeal. We have been fundraising for the charity all year and will be participating in the Gromit Unleashed 3 Trail with our own Vincent Van Bot! Stay tuned to hear how you can meet Vincent later this year.
