Teacher Profile: Mr Goldsworthy
Ahead of our Christmas Concert, we would like to share a profile of our Head of Music, Mr Goldsworthy, written by Raven in Y13.
Where are you from? Hobbies and interests?
I'm from Leicester and my hobbies are pretty much all music related--playing, writing, listening, etc, etc
What instruments do you play how long have you been playing them?
I play the trumpet/cornet. Started at age 7 and continue to this day. Piano, guitar, drums, ukuleles and all other brass instruments I've picked up along the way.
What is the best memory that you have associated with your instrument or music?
There are too many to mention, so many big gigs and stages I've played on but also, so many amazing gigs I've been to watch! Touring with bands before I was a teacher was a lot of fun.
What got you into music?
My grandpa. He played the cornet and gave one to me when I was disabled as a child. I sat and played it until the noises started to resemble music!
Why do you love music and why do you believe music is important?
Such a big question. Music is creativity, music is maths, science, history and art. To sit and play or write music, can be a much needed escape when needed. If I'm stressed, annoying the neighbours by practicing is the best thing! There is a sense of pride I get from what I've done and where I've been, but also pride in seeing students achieve as well.
Any music recommendations?
Where to start! I have a notice board in my classroom with my favourite musicians on it, for when I need inspiration. Anything from Frank Sinatra to Rage Against the Machine. Good music is good music in my opinion!
