World Book Day

5 Mar 26

We love World Book Day at Sheldon! It's a great day to celebrate and share our love of reading. This year our staff and Sixth Form students dressed up as a pretty diverse group of characters from classics, picture books and reference books. We do a lot at Sheldon to promote reading and have a beautiful library that is kept well stocked with new and old favourites by our Librarian, Miss Punter.

"Reading is good for all aspects of your education," she explained. "By reading regularly, you learn how to decode information. You also increase you vocabulary and understanding of the lives of others. Reading on a regular basis also helps to lower stress and anxiety levels."

We have recently begun running the VIPERS literary intervention group in the library to help students reach their chronological reading age. This will help them better access information in lessons by being able to comprehend what they are reading and being taught. The programme initially started with Year 7 students and is now expanding to Year 9 to get them GCSE ready.

Our library is open to all students to find a great new book to enjoy at school or at home. We encourage all of our students to read for pleasure as it's a great way unwind after a busy day at school! If you'd like help finding a new book to read, stop by our library and speak to Miss Punter.

Childhood shapes who you become (as we say at the NSPCC) and Sheldon was a big part of that.
