Silver Award - Year 10

The Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award is completed during Year 10 and takes a minimum of 6 months to complete if you have achieved your Bronze Award, 12 months if you are starting at Silver. It involves completion of volunteering, physical and skills sections along with an expedition. You will need to spend 6 months on volunteering. For your physical and skill sections you will need to choose one to complete in 6 months, the other 3 months. If you have not achieved the Bronze award, you will need to do further 6 months in either the volunteering or the longer of the physical or skills sections.

The 3-Day, 2-Night expedition is delivered by Sheldon School staff with the training day organised by our partners H5 Adventure. You will need to attend training days and practice expeditions to achieve your award.

TheThe Silver Award involves 6 months in the volunteering section. Physical and skills section can be divided between 6 months in one, 3 months in the other. Plus an expedition of 3 days and 2 nights. If you dont do Bronze, you must do a further 6 months in either the volunteering or the longer of the physical or skills sections.

Costs

If your child would like to take on the challenge of the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award please make the initial payment of £70 by Friday 13 October 2023. All payments are made through ParentPay. 

Initial Payment: £70, includes DofE registration fee, H5 Adventure training day, license fee cost and insurance  

Practice & Assessment Expeditions: approx £60 per expedition, includes transport, food and camp site fees 

We try hard to keep the expedition costs as low as possible. The total cost for the award should not be more than £250. If you need any assistance with payments, please get in touch.

Expedition Dates

Training Day: Sunday 3 March 2024

Practice Expedition: Friday 15 March 2024 (after school departure) – Sunday 17 March 2024

Qualifying Expedition: Friday 19 April 2024 (morning departure) – Sunday 21 April 2024
